Thanks Paul for carrying the gear and braving the cold, wind and rain with me to get these shots!
Definitely enjoyed our stay in London 🇬🇧 and hope to do it again at a less hectic pace!
We met with numerous recruiters, walked an average of 5 miles/day and 20 flights of stairs in dress shoes. Commuted via the "tube" many times daily and only went the wrong way two times 😁 London was expensive as expected but we managed to see and do a lot without paying any entry/exhibit fees. Also, pleasantly surprised how refined, polite and helpful everyone was; unusual for such a busy city. We recommend a visit to London...history⛪️ (& pubs 🍻) on every corner! Leake St. graffiti, skyline from London Bridge looking at Tower Bridge and the view from the steps of St. Paul's Cathedral. Educational tidbit: "The Albert Memorial is located in Kensington Gardens on Albert Memorial Road opposite the Royal Albert Hall. It is one of London's most ornate monuments, designed by George Gilbert Scott. Unveiled in 1872, The Albert Memorial commemorates the death of Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's husband, who died of typhoid fever at the age of 42. The memorial shows Prince Albert holding the catalogue of the Great Exhibition, held in Hyde Park in 1851, which he inspired and helped to organise. Marble figures representing Europe, Asia, Africa and America stand at each corner of the memorial, and higher up are further figures representing manufacture, commerce, agriculture and engineering. Yet further up, near the top, are gilded bronze statues of the angels and virtues. All around the base of the memorial the Parnassus frieze depicts celebrated painters, poets sculptors, musicians and architects, reflecting Albert's enthusiasm for the arts. There are 187 exquisitely carved figures in the frieze." Today's travels: we got our resume portfolio printed up at MBE (mailboxes etc.), bought a business satchel from a knock-off purse vendor at a colorful Arab community farmers market, rode the tube again using our Oyster Card, went to the Apple Store at a beautiful 4 story mall, bought oatmeal and lotion at Poundland (dollar store) and had dinner at a rock and roll bar called Belushi's while drinking a bucket of Sol because it was the Happy Hour special. February 10th - 16th, 2015 For anyone coming to Europe we highly recommend staying at the renowned Welbeck Lodge (Collingham NG237QT) with Lisa, Kurt, Karson, Katherine and Maggie Schaedel. They are the most hospitable and generous hosts you ever could ever hope for. The time spent with them was splendid! We enjoyed our trips to the local villages for the farmers market, pubs, sandwich shop, tours of old churches and castle ruins. They took us under their wing and gave us a vocabulary lesson. Teaching us that chips are steak fries, crisps are potato chips, napkins are serviettes, diapers are napkins, wellies are boots and our favorite word of the week....Kerfuffle! The Lodge offers relaxing walks with Maggie in the field across the road down foot paths to the train tracks and back. The entertainment continued with Karson on sax and Katherine on the keyboards and guitar. The kids were a big help in the kitchen as we cooked up Italian meals and they made desserts. Kurt & Lisa made sure we never went thirsty with local beers, red wines and limoncello. All things considered anything less than a 5 star review would be a disservice. We offer many thanks and hope to be able spend some precious time in the future with the Schaedel's, hopefully returning the favor at our new gig...wherever that may be. Cheers, Paul & Jess Sad to leave...we will miss the Schaedel family! A Lovely Valentines Tea = (dinner is lunch here, tea is dinner and supper is a snack before bed).
